An Electricity Temple Banner by Jared Pullen

“Surrender to its erratic nature. Allow its energy to charge through your body and anticipate its movement... then unleash it...willingly.”
    —The Chronicler

Electricity is one of Spyro's four main elemental attacks in The Legend of Spyro series. Volteer is the Dragon Guardian of Electricity.

History

To master the element of Electricity, a Dragon would need to be clever and quick witted. Charged ionic forces displaced at speed are channeled from the air, redirected over muscle, bone, sinew and scale; and thus resisted with arts of wit and will, project forth this phenomenal force of nature, either through exhalation or motion of the body. Nerves of steel and an exquisite sense of timing are required here, otherwise a Dragon would fail to properly redirect and release the powerful energies surging through their body. Sheer speed of thought to regulate this immediate process allows a well trained Electricity Dragon to channel and produce powerful torrents of electricity. For this reason, Electricity Dragons are often possessed of higher cognitive function, with a 'silver tongue' to articulate thought at high speed. Such power though makes them prone to high-flown language, of which Volteer is a true example. A deep knowledge of the sky also assists to bolster understanding of this primal elemental power.

It is not beyond reason that an Electricity Dragon in full possession of its wits and intellect could exercise mastery of this element in unexpected ways. The quick thinker could perhaps ionise the extremities of its' body, charging horns, claws, tail and wingtips to create and project a static-electric manifestation. Similarly this charge could be projected onto inanimate objects, provided they could carry a current, thus creating a deadly and cunning trap for unwary foes. Electricity is most definitely the thinking Dragon's' weapon of choice.[1]

Abilities

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning

Electricity is one of the four elements Spyro learns to help fight his enemies. The young dragon learned to use the Electricity element on Dante's Freezer when he was struck by the enemy's electricity stream and later learned to utilize the element with the help of the Electric Guardian, Volteer. It can be used to shock enemies and throw them around (even off edges) with Spyro's Electric Stream, and also to suspend them in a makeshift electric cage in midair to help with using air attacks. This tactic is called Electric Arc.

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

Spyro learns electricity as he flies away from the Pirate Fleet to the White Isle. Sparx manages to get a "creepy little turtle-monster," or Leviathan, to bring them to White Isle while Spyro is still unconscious. The Electric Orb can be used to blast enemies into the air. Spyro can also launch enemies into the air by creating a small electric twister that surrounds him and running into enemies.

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon

Electricity is used to shock enemies and allow Spyro to create an orb around himself while simultaneously shocking enemies and sending out electric pulses.

Attacks

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning

Electric Stream

  • Starting Breath: Spyro breathes a small, fairly weak stream of electricity that can be breathed for as long as desired. It can be used to slightly move small enemies around.
  • Electric Stream of Surging Currents: Two bolts will be blasted together, with a slightly longer range.
  • Electric Stream of Slithering Viper: Three bolts now are unleashed at the same time, with a longer reach.
  • Icklemar's Almighty Electric Stream: Four bolts now are launched at once, and two split off to either the left or right.

Electric Arc

  • Starting Blast: Spyro shoots a single ball of electricity that hones in on an enemy and lifts it slightly off the ground.
  • Electric Arc of the Static Shock: Two electric arcs that are bigger and more powerful in size are shot at once.
  • Electric Arc of Crackling Silence: Three arcs are now shot at one time. If this is repeatedly used, a fourth shot will launch only one arc, and there will be a delay before it can be used again.
  • Penagar's Thundering Electric Arcs: The size of the electric arcs increases once again, and now there will be four arcs shot at one time. If this attack is continuously used, two shots of four arcs will be shot, then one of two will be shot, and then there is a delay.

Electric Fury

  • Starting Fury: Spyro creates a powerful and explosive wall of electricity that does great damage.
  • Fury of Angtor's Raging Storm: Extra bolts of lightning will rain down for a few seconds before the blast. This is unlocked by obtaining Icklemar's Almighty Electric Stream and Penagar's Thundering Electric Arcs.

The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

Electric Orb

  • Starting Orb: Spyro charges and launches a sphere of condensed electricity that explodes after a short while. The longer the charge, the farther it will be launched. The orb can impact enemies, bounce off surfaces, and be manually detonated.
  • Pulsing Electric Orb: The size, damage, and blast radius of the orb is increased.
  • Radiating Electric Orb: The size, damage, and blast radius of the orb is increased.
  • Zygoren's Thundering Electric Orb: The size, damage, and blast radius of the orb reach their maximum.

Electric Whirlwind

  • Balancing on his tail while spinning rapidly in an electric vortex, Spyro can swiftly hit multiple enemies surrounding him, knocking them into the air, and juggling them. Stopping the attack while staying still causes Spyro to be briefly dizzy. Each upgrade level only increases the damage for this attack.

Electric Fury

  • Rising in the air, arcs of electricity surge from Spyro's body and a sphere forms around him, power keeps on building until it overloads in a powerful shockwave. The aftereffect of the fury causes Spyro to briefly stun enemies that are too close.

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon

Primary Electricity

  • Lightning Bolt: Spyro breathes a weak stream of lightning that damages and stuns enemies. It is capable of disarming and breaking shields after a short time.
  • Charged Lighting Bolt: The damage is increased and the bolt can branch off to several close enemies. Disarming and breaking shields is quicker.
  • Supercharged Lightning Bolt: The damage is at maximum and the bolt can branch off to even more enemies. Disarming and breaking shields is instantaneous.

Secondary Electricity

  • Electric Sphere: Spyro curls himself up and is suspended in the air with a sphere of electricity surrounding him.
  • Charged Electric Sphere: The damage is increased and the frequency of the sphere can be amplified.
  • Supercharged Electric Sphere: The damage is at maximum and an electric pulse can burst from the sphere after reaching a high enough frequency.

Trivia

  • Previous dragons who mastered Electricity are mentioned in the final upgrades in A New Beginning and The Eternal Night, named Icklemar, Penagar, Angtor and Zygoren.
  • Electric attacks in both A New Beginning and The Eternal Night's console versions leave yellowish lines on the ground. Unlike the effects from other elements, they do not appear to be leftovers from the magic attack, instead acting as if the breath singed the ground like a laser.
